HERE IS THE BREAKING NEWS OF THE DAY: The Newest Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson just confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
The United States made history on Thursday April 7, as the Senate confirmed, 51 year old Ketanji Brown Jackson as the first Black woman ever to serve on the Supreme Court, making her the 116th Supreme Court justice
“This milestone should have happened generations ago… but we are always trotting on a path towards a more perfect union. Nevertheless, America today is taking a giant step towards making our union more perfect,” Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said.
“People sometimes talk about standing on the shoulders of giants; well, Judge Jackson will go down in history as an American giant upon whose shoulders others will stand tall. And our democracy will be better off for it.” According to president Biden, it is a "historic moment for the nation."
Judge Ketanji's appointment, is historic, since it is the first time in 233 years a black woman will occupy the nation's high court position, her appointment fulfils President Joe Biden's campaign promise to put a black woman on the court.
The voting process that had Justice Ketanji emerge as the first female black Justice, was overseen by the US first black female vice president, Kamala Harris. Now Judge Ketanji, will replace Justice Stephen Breyer, a fellow liberal judge once he retires in June this year 2022
