The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has joined his ancestors at the age of 83 at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, on Friday April 22nd after an illness.
The monarch, Alaafin Adeyemi was born Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi on October 15, 1938 into the Alowolodu Royal House of the famous Oyo town. He succeeded his predecessor, Oba Gbadegesin Ladigbolu I, in November 18, 1970 and was crowned in January 14, 1971.

The monarch, who enjoyed a 52 years rule and who was the longest ruling Alaafin of Oyo, was 31 years old when he ascended the throne and already had two wives.
Before his passing to the great beyond, arrangements have been made for him and some of his wives to go abroad for treatment but that never happened.
They flight tickets were ready before his sudden passing on Friday night.
His body have been taking to Oyo state were his burial rites has begun in accordance to the Yoruba tradition.
The remains of the late Alaafin’s, have been received by his son Prince ‘Tunde, and his other children at Idi-Igba, Oyo town early Saturday morning.
He was the son of Oba Adeyemi II, a former Alaafin of Oyo who was deposed and sent into exile in 1954 for having sympathy for the National Council of Nigerian Citizens.
