Two women at an all female prison in Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in New Jersey, have become pregnant after having sex with transgender inmates.

The names of the pregnant inmates, are yet to be made public but prison authorities have not confirmed whether the women were impregnated by the same transgender inmate or not.

However, DOC's external affairs executive director Dan Sperrazza has told NJ.com that the pregnant women had engaged in the intercourse willingly, following several accusations of abuse at the jail.

'While DOC cannot comment on any specific disciplinary or housing decisions that may be considered in light of these events, the Department always reserves all options to ensure the health and safety of the individuals in its custody,' Sperrazza said.

The correctional facility at Clinton in New Jersey, began housing transgender women last year as a settlement following a lawsuit brought by a trans woman and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of New Jersey after the trans woman was forced to live in men’s prisons for 18 months.

The facility which have more than 800 prisoners is currently housing 27 transgender women inmates.

Also, the New Jersey only female correctional facility does not require trans-women to undergo gender-reassignment surgery in order to be housed.

According to Daily Mail report, the state must house prisoners by the gender they identify with rather than the sex they were born with, and the policy says a prisoner can announce a change in gender identity at any time while they’re behind bars.
