Ramadan is a holy month of fasting, introspection and prayer for Muslims, the followers of Islam. It is celebrated as the month during which Muhammad received the initial revelations of the Quran, the holy book for Muslims. Fasting is one of the five fundamental principles of Islam. Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, self-improvement, and devotion to Allah. Fasting during Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, which are the basic acts of worship that are mandatory for all Muslims. The holy month of Ramadan or Ramzan will begin on March 22 this year.
Fasting generally entails abstaining from food, drink, and sexual relations from before the first light of dawn until the setting of the sun. Muslims are required to fast on each of the 29 to 30 days of Ramadan. If unable to fast, charity or fasting days outside Ramadan may suffice. Ramadan is known as the holiest month in Islam. Ramadan is the month where the Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Muslims are also encouraged to read the Quran more often with sincerity. It is a common mistake if I say Happy Ramadan.
However, that should be corrected. The month of Ramadan is a month of fasting, not a holiday, and therefore it is customary to greet people by saying (“Ramadan Kareem”) or (“Ramadan Mubarak,” Have a blessed Ramadan). So if any of you fast during Ramadan, Have a blessed Ramadan.
