It's now official that Woman and woman, man and man can now legally marry in Cuba as the country votes yes to same-sex marriage in a national referendum

This development came after Cubans voted in favor of a family code that increased the protection of lives for the minorities on the island, during the country's National Electoral Council that was announced on Monday day 27th September 2022

It all started when the Electoral Council on live TV said about 74.1% of those eligible to vote in Sunday's national referendum had turned out to cast their ballot peaceful

And from the records, 94% of the votes counted as of 9 am ET on Monday morning. 3,936,790 had voted in favor and 1,950,090 voted against, the resulting signal of overwhelming support for the new law to take effect. The new family code extends greater protection to women, children, and the elderly, as well as allows LGBTQ couples to marry and adopt children in line with the laws of the land

So Now Is Official Cuba Has to Legalize Same-Sex Marriage

Women and women are now legally allowed to marry in Cuba as the country votes yes to same-sex marriage in a national referendum. The result of the vote further reads that 7.8 million people voted in favor and around 6.4 million against, a difference of more than 700,000 votes, of which those who voted in favor had it

Same-sex marriage In recent years, the topic of same-sex marriage has become increasingly divisive. While some argue that everyone should have the right to marry whomever they love regardless of their opposite sex, regardless of same-sex gender

Others believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. The debate over same-sex marriage is often heated and emotional, with both sides feeling strongly about their beliefs, though in Cuba it has now been legalized ending the years of discrimination among LGBTQ people in Cuba

As multiple reports have it, for decades, LGBTQ people in Cuba faced official discrimination on the communist-run island. That in the early 1960s, after Fidel Castro took power, many gay people were sent to government work camps alongside political dissidents. Though homosexuality was legalized in Cuba in 1979, many gay men and women said they still faced open discrimination.

Mariela Castro, the daughter of former Cuban president Raul Castro, has openly advocated through a government-funded center for improved rights for gays, lesbians, and transgender people. But the push for greater equality faced stiff opposition from both outside and from within the Cuban

Also the reason why most people voted in favor of the new law s not too far from the US Supreme Court rule a few years back that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide in the United States

The law ruled that it was a violation of the 14th Amendment to deny people this right. The ruling recognized that gay and lesbian Americans are equal under the law, the same way the Cuban has adopted now

Though That Has Not Ended The Debate

One factor which has led to the debate over same-sex marriage is religion. Many people believe that God disapproves of two men or two women getting married, and as a result, they oppose it based on their religious faith

Before Now

In 2018, Cuban legislators abandoned provisions that would have legalized same-sex marriage amid fears that a homophobic backlash would have lowered turnout for a referendum to approve a new constitution. The following year, Cuban police broke up a peaceful LGBTQ rights parade saying the marchers did not have permission to hold the rally.

Cuba’s growing evangelical community in particular had openly advocated against approving the family code. But in the weeks before the referendum

The Cuban government made a full court press in favor of the new family code across state-run media, arguing the new code is proof the island’s now more than six-decades-old-revolution is capable of adapting to the times, not until Monday morning day 27th September when Cuba Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage.
