World second richest man Jeff Bezos have coughed out a whopping sum of $200 million to have his name on a new branch of the Smithsonian’s Air and Space Museum.

The Amazon founder came to an agreement to make this donation towards the Bezos Learning Center, a new science, technology, engineering and arts (STEAM) education center a week after his space travel in July 2021.

Bezos donation so far, is highest donation made to Smithsonian and Beso's name will be on the space museum for atleast 50 years.

The written agreement between Bezo and Smithsonian outlining the details of his donation was obtained by MarketWatch.

The terms of agreement doesn't include any 'moral clause'.

Along with the STEAM center, a major portion of the renovations will focus on the museum's existing restaurant area this spring and replace it with the new building, with the aim of opening it in 2026 to mark the 50th anniversary of the National Air and Space Museum's National Mall building and the 250th anniversary of the United States, a spokeswoman said.

In July 2021, the museum announced that, 'The Bezos Learning Center will support our mission of inspiring the next generation of innovators, explorers and researchers'.

It was specified in the agreement that the Smithsonian will begin to use Bezos name 'immediately' though the work on the new Learning center is yet to be completed.

Also under the terms of agreement, Bezos’s name will be displayed on the outside of the learning center facing Jefferson Avenue and the National Mall, on the outside of the center facing Independence Avenue, and on an entrance to the center that will be inside the National Air and Space Museum

The Smithsonian’s Air and Space Museum was named after
the British scientist James Smithson.

Bezos' name among others who have donated $10 million or more will be displayed on a new glass sculpture and displayed on a wall in the Distinguished Benefactors Room in the Smithsonian Castle, another donor wall at the National Air and Space Museum's Virginia location.

Astronaut Jim Lovell thanked Bezos for 'paying it forward to the next generation.'
