Few days ago the Lagos State Government, Nigeria in West Africa placed a ban on Okada riders (Commercial Motorcycles) in 6 local government areas and 9 LCDAs within the Lagos state:

One would have expected the Government to create jobs for the unemployed youths of Nigeria, who are forced into Okada business due to no job and hardship, only but for Government to ban them overnight, one of the Okada riders ''Mr Abba'' my friend who happens to be an Okada rider with 6 Children is now jobless, not just him, there are others in their hundreds now jobless.

The affected local government areas are as follows
1: Ikeja
2: Eti-Osa
3: Lagos Island
4: Surulere
5: Apapa and
6: Lagos Mainland

While Some Affected 9 LCDAs are as follows
1: Onigbongbo
2: Ojodu
3: Ikoyi - Obalende
4: Iru - Victoria Island
5: Lagos Island East
6: Itire - Aguda
7: Coker - Aguda
8: Iganmu
9: Yaba

And today being the first day of June 2022, the Lagos state government has also begun enforcing the ban on commercial motorcycles, known across Nigeria as (Okada). The Lagos State Government through her media made the publication to members of the press and the general public, Lagos Nigeria

Citing the Government's determination to end commercial motorcycles from all roads across the 6 local governments and 9 LCDAs, also extending the ban on all major roads, Highways, and Bridges in Lagos, The below picture was obtained by World Forum Live

Now Here Is The Problem With The Okada Ban
Nigeria is a rich country, but with poor leadership, and corrupt leaders who keep looting public funds, creating hardship, and massive unemployment for Nigerians

Because of the poverty level across Nigeria, no jobs for youth, businesses is had to maintain, and most Nigerians are forced to do miner jobs, such as riding commercial motorcycles (Okada) just to survive life, eat and take care of their family. But today, the government that failed in providing jobs for them (Nigerians) is banning Okada without making previous for better jobs for the commercial motorcyclist

With just this wrong decision from the Lagos state government, most of these Okada riders will be force out of work, and when there is no job for them, there will be no means of earning, few of them may go into crimes, increasing the rate of crime and insecurity across Nigeria

The poor decision of the Lagos state government on the Okada ban may also contribute to the high rate of insecurity affecting the country. The government should have made a provision, by creating jobs for their youth, it would have been better that way, not the other way round

Sadly: One may expect that the Government should have provided better jobs for these people, and made a better transportation system for the public before embarking on the Okada banned.

You are right OP

Also in Rivers states the rate of kidnapping has increased over the past few months after the state Government banned illegal refinery

So you are right when you say, the government should first provide jobs for these people before banning their sources of livelihood

Is so pathetic in this part of the world. may God help us
